A GUIDED STUDY

Grace & Forgiveness

Receive grace and consider the patient work of reconciliation.

BEGIN WITH SCRIPTURE

Luke 15:11–32; Ephesians 4:25–32

Consider together

The parable of the returning son offers a picture of generous welcome. Grace begins with God’s love rather than our ability to earn it. Forgiveness can be a long process, and it does not require denying harm, removing healthy boundaries, or returning to an unsafe relationship. In community we can learn to practice mercy and accountability together.

Questions for reflection

  1. What surprises you about the father’s response?
  2. Where is it difficult to receive grace?
  3. How can mercy and healthy boundaries belong together?

A practice for the week

Name one way you can receive kindness this week. If reconciliation is involved, consider a wise, safe next step without rushing yourself or another person.

A simple prayer

Jesus, help me listen with an open heart. Give me patience for what I do not yet understand, and courage to live out what I receive. Amen.
